How Wine Can Be Family Friendly

February 11th, 2012

Wine is restricted to people over the age of 21 in the United States and is generally 18 and over everywhere else in the world.

How does it become such a family friendly industry?

These thoughts occured to me as I was visiting a local winery to pick up a wine gift for my father in law this past week. It was dumb luck, but the head winemaker happened to be giving someone a tour and asked my wife if we\’d be interested in tagging along.  Of course that sounded like and we\’ve never seen the back of a winery before, so we went with.

About half way through the tour when we were tasting wine from barrels, the winemakers two kids (6 and 3) ran past us saying hello to the entire staff.  It turns out that a winery is a great spot to hang out if you\’re a little kid.  There are a lot of friendly people.  Plenty to eat and usually a dog or two to play with.

Makes you wonder if we kept our culture more open to alcohol if the end result would actually be less addiction doesn\’t it. Those kids will probably grow up with enough appreciation for wine that they won\’t abuse it.

The Freezerless Refrigerator – Benefits and Options

November 30th, 2011

There are many applications where people need refrigerated space, but have no requirement for freezing products. If you have needs of this sort then you should seriously consider whether or not a freezerless refrigerator might make a good addition to your list of hardware.

People who own large deep chest freezers frequently find that although they can freezer literally hundreds of pounds of bulk meat or precooked foods, they don’t have storage for readily perishable items like produce.

If they seek to balance their diet with a combination of both meat and vegetables, they need to have some means of storing the veggies.  Buying a typical fridge freezer would be a complete waste, as this type of shopper has no need for extra frozen capacity.  It makes much more sense to seek out an All Refrigerator appliance that comes without any space dedicated to a freezer compartment.

By choosing a refrigerator without freezer not only do buyers avoid wasting space, they can also save some money.  A freezerless refrigerator can be a little cheaper to manufacture, as the hardware required to maintain freezing conditions in an isolated compartment does not have to be built in.

While these appliances are not always well represented in your typical appliance store, they are produced by many different manufacturers.  Those on a modest budget can shop Frigidaire or Whirlpool Freezerless refrigerators, which are moderately priced.

For bigger spenders, premium brands such as Liebherr, Sub Zero, Viking and Thermador all offer higher priced refrigerators that do not have freezers built-in. Naturally, a shoppers preferences are largely going to be determined by their history with particular brands, as well as by the funds available for them to spend.

One unusual offering – from the firm Summit – are Chest refrigerator models.  If you are not too concerned about having traditional looking appliances, these can be a great choice.  Their excellent energy efficiency makes them very popular in some circles, and their cost is relatively low.

While not in widespread use in residential settings, the common usage of these appliances in commercial settings such as supermarkets or the retail food industry is a strong testament to the quality and usefulness of freezerless refrigerators.

Preparing Delicious Juices in the Comfort of Your Own Place

November 29th, 2011
Juices

What a nice fresh orange juice!

I used to have a nice glass of a fresh juice bought at a local market just before I left for work. I just loved this routine that I have created which would allow me to get a nice, refreshing juice just before the day stars.

It has certainly made a big difference in my day to day habits.

But there was a small problem which I was not very satisfied with. The problem was that getting a juice of around 500ml is not that cheap. It can be quite expensive to get one juice each and every morning just the way I was doing.

Because of that, I decided that I would find a way to solve that problem; luckily, I did.

The solution to my problem was finding a good juicer to buy. Then the next step was to decide which juicer was the right one for me. I had to consider many factors on choosing the right juicer like the whole debate about masticating juicers vs centrifugal juicers, budget constraints, etc.

Choosing my juicer

In the end I decided that a centrifugal juicer would be the best option for me and being decided on that, I immediately went to the internet to find some good deals. Luckily I have found a cheap Breville 800JEXL for sale.

I bought it and then after just 5 days, I was able to prepare some juices at the comfort of my own place.

Now, it certainly takes some time preparing the juice and the juicer it self since I have to clean and slice up all fruits and vegetables and then take my time cleaning my juicer – which is quite easy since most parts of this juicer are dishwasher safe.

So, that solved my problem. If you are having the same problem I highly recommend that you seek out a good juicer that you can buy.
