Reaching Your Fitness Goals In 2012

February 16th, 2012

Everybody that starts an exercise program in the new year does so with the best of intentions but more often than not that little thing called life gets in the way! Here we will cover a few things to help make it easier for you to succeed in your goals.

If You Smoke Quit Or Switch To An Alternative

For the smokers out there I won’t preach about how unhealthy it is, I think we all know the details behind that. What I will do though is tell you about an alternative, the electronic cigarette. They allow for the action of smoking to stay in place but they don’t contain any of the carcinogens that cigarettes contain. In the long run they can also save you money but to start with you can use the Safe Cig coupon code to get a reduction on starter kits. The other great thing about e-cigs is that you can buy different strengths of nicotine enabling you to work your way down to 0mg strength and ultimately quit altogether.

Join A Boot-camp and Improve Your Overall Health and Fitness

Boot-camps are all the craze at the moment and there is a good reason for that, they have proven with many people to be a lot more effective than just going to the gym. Again the cost of boot-camps can be more upfront but you get so much more help and advice as you have direct access to a trainer who will also advise on a nutrition plan for you to follow.

Learn To Cook!

If you are not the best in the kitchen and rely on a lot of processed foods then it is time to learn some basic cooking techniques. You don’t need to be Gordon Ramsey to be able to cook fresh food that is very nutritional.

These are just a few things you can focus on but they are definitely very effective. What are you waiting for!

Lollapalooza

February 6th, 2012

One of the many yearly things I like to do is attend Lollapalooza. It has nearly become a ritual for me. I could be suffering whiplash symptoms and I would still attend the festival. This may seem silly, but it is true.

What comes with a Lollapalooza experience is often one that makes me think of the days when I used to go camping more often. You get sweaty, tired, hungry, thirsty, and sunburned. But it is all for the good of the experience. And I am glad to suffer those things to see what I have seen.

I have gotten to see so many bands, big to small, that I can’t believe I did. I have gotten to see The National, Devo, The Strokes, Depeche Mode, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Black Keys, Raphael Saadiq, Lou Reed, B.o.B., Big Audio Dynamite, Death From Above 1979, Friendly Fires, Crystal Castles, Santigold,  Metric, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Smith Westerns, and so many more. All thanks to that one great weekend every year in August.

The Many Benefits Of Drinking Aloe Vera Juice

January 19th, 2012

Aloe vera juice benefits your health in many ways. Being packed full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, aloe vera juice will boost your immune system thereby enabling your body to act as its own healer by combating anything from the common cold to many cancers.

Aloe vera juice also has anti-inflammatory benefits and medical tests have shown it to be beneficial to sufferers of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and Ulcerative Colitis. In addition, in its cream form aloe vera has been shown in a double-blind medical trial to cure over 80% of patients with the most common form of psoriasis, and works just as well with eczema. As both these conditions are most often caused by inflammation, drinking the juice will also help with these unpleasant skin disorders.

As if the above was not a great roll call of achievements, you can add many of the common types of arthritis. Best for this is the Forever Freedom version of aloe vera juice which has added ingredients designed to maintain the structure of the cartilage found in the body’s joints. Keeping these natural shock absorbers well lubricated helps to avoid ‘wear and tear’ type arthritis, which is particularly common in women.

In view of the above can you think of a good reason not to drink aloe vera juice?

Rogaine For Women

January 12th, 2012

I’m a female in my 50′s and I was losing my hair.  My dermatologist recommended using Rogaine for women twice a day.

I don’t use the applicator that came with the product to apply the liquid but in stead I use a needleless syringe.  Provided that I only squeeze a few drops of Rogaine on my scalp, I can rub it into my scalp without it running down my face/neck into my clothes.  After each application I style my hair as normal.

I’m one of the lucky ones, the difference Rogaine for women has made is dramatic.  I now have thicker, more beautiful hair than I’ve ever had.

Stick with it – at least, complete the first box – it does take a while and it is a pain to apply it twice a day.  And, of course, if it works you have to keep it up for the rest of your days…

Different Types of Patients Medical Assistants Encounter

December 9th, 2011

The entire scope of the work of a medical assistant varies. They are mostly responsible for conducting clinical and administrative support for the medical clinic to function efficiently. Most of the day to day work of a medical assistant involves actual encounter of various types of patients. Here are some of the types of patients they deal with:

  • Patients receiving medical treatment

When medical assistants assist on patients who come for medical treatment, they are then called “clinical medical assistants”. They perform the specific instructions given by the doctors like explaining to their patients the detailed instructions of the medical prescriptions as well as their required nutritional diets while undergoing the specified medical treatment. Aside from these tasks, the clinical medical assistant also record vital signs, pulse rate, temperature and take note of the patient’s medical background.

  • Eye care patients

Some medical assistants work in medical offices or clinics whose patients are receiving eye-care treatments and other clinical vision related procedures. They are often called as “optometric assistants” where they attend to patients with contact lenses need, test the patient’s muscle coordination and measure their visions as well.

  • Patients with foot care treatment

Other medical assistants work in medical clinics dealing with patients with foot problems or needing foot care treatment. They are often referred to as “ pediatric assistants”. Their main function is to help patients during medical examination and surgery operations. They also conduct other clinical tasks like taking vital signs, getting patient’s medical records and explaining any treatments for the patient’s convenience. They are also asked to make casts for the patients as well as bandaging their feet.

Medical assistants also help in the overall administrative duties of any medical office. Their work may involve proper filing and maintenance of all patients’ records. They are the first people who greet the patients when they go to any medical clinic, so it would be an added factor for any medical clinic to hire a medical assistant who has pleasing personality and a positive outlook in life.

Medical assistants are exposed to all kinds of patients in their day to day working regimen, so it is a must that they have acquired adequate medical training programs and have passed all the needed certification examinations in order to cope up well with the complexities of the job as reliable medical assistants.

December 6th, 2011
freshly cut oranges

Delicious sliced oranges

Today’s modern world is full of fast paced living, TV sound bites and convenience foods. It’s true that there’s more information out there which we are bombarded with every day. But that doesn’t mean we have to constantly be rushing about. Take breakfast time for instance, it’s the most important meal of the day. Don’t you think it’s worth taking the time, not just to eat breakfast, but to eat a healthy breakfast?

So instead of toast and coffee or some juice from a carton, how about slowing down and making yourself a nice glass of freshly squeezed, home made orange juice? You can’t argue that it tastes amazing!

There’s plenty of other types of “healthy” juices you can make at home, these juicer reviews talk about some of the different styles being used today. If you want to make orange juice, a citrus press is the right choice. For “green juices” you might want to look into a masticating juicer. But can you handle the taste?

E Cigarettes – A Good Alternative To Smoking?

December 5th, 2011

For anyone that smokes tobacco cigarettes and has tried to quit before will know, it is hard, very very hard!

There are a number of techniques that can be used to quit smoking but not many are all that effective. Hypnotherapy has worked for some and although it works for many initially they soon find themselves lighting up again. Patches are another way to send you your nicotine hit without breathing in the harmful smoke, the problem with these (at least what I found) is that i didn’t know what to do with my hands, I became fidgety and before I knew it I was reaching out for cigarettes once again.

One of the newest products to hit the market and arguably one of the most effective is the electronic cigarette. This gives you the best of both worlds, delivering the nicotine (minus all the carcinogens) and replicating the look and feel of a tobacco cigarette. You cannot underestimate the difference this can make to your attempt at stopping smoking. This is a key point for many people including me.

If this is a method you would like to pursue then begin by reading this E-Lites review to see what to look for in a good e cigarette. There are lots of other brands available that are very good, names such as Green Smoke and Sky Cig are others to look out for.

Make sure they have good battery life, give off a good vapor volume, have a range of strengths and that the company adds new products to its range. This way you at least know that they are researching the latest technologies and are always trying to improve their offer.

One thing should be said though, if you are not a smoker then you shouldn’t buy any kind of e cigarettes, they do contain nicotine and as a result are addictive. The idea is to get rid of an addiction not to start one!

Simple Daily Habits to Avoid Hypertension

December 2nd, 2011

Your blood pressure is a good gauging mechanism of your health. Hypertension, the condition characterized by abnormally elevated pressures of the blood, can bring about heart attack or stroke. The opposite condition called hypotension, meanwhile, can bring about dizziness. And if such a condition is not properly and timely taken care of, it can result in decreased organ functions. Severe headaches, irregular heartbeats, as well as considerable decrease in urine output will likely ensue as the organs struggle with the critical lack of blood.  To see levels of blood pressure that are considered hypertension, check out this blood pressure chart.

Fortunately, you can steer clear of these conditions if you start to adapt healthier habits. And eating a sufficiently balanced diet is one of these. Make sure to always have whole unprocessed foods such as fruits and vegetables in your plate. Implementing such a diet will not only ensure that your daily nutrient needs are met, but you will also make your heart healthier and stronger too.

Consider eliminating junk foods from your grocery list as well. When you limit your consumption of unhealthy snack choices such as processed potato chips, for instance, you also get to keep your salt intake in check. And steering clear of foods that are high in sodium content is very crucial as too much of this mineral can cause hypertension. Junk foods are also full of unsaturated fats which contribute to coronary heart disease so removing these food items from your cupboard will help in your effort to achieve cardiac wellbeing.

Red meat products that are notoriously high in cholesterol should also be reduced. This is because the latter can accumulate in and cause blockages to your arteries. Opt to replace red meat with healthier options such as fish. Another alternative would be to opt for soy-based tofu or tempeh instead.

Integrating rigorous physical activities in your daily life would be of great help as well. When you move about, your heart and other body organs will work more efficiently. Cardiologists advocate at least 30 minutes of brisk walking or running as such a length of exercise will be sufficient to get the heart properly pumping.

Steering clear of smoking and excessive alcohol drinking will ensure optimum cardiac wellness too. This is because these practices can bring about hardening of the arteries. So if you have hypertension and you drink and smoke, you’ll inevitably cause your arteries to prematurely age. And you don’t want this to happen as such a condition can increase the likelihood of a stroke or heart attack.

Keeping your emotions in check should be observed at all times too. When you are constantly anxious or stressed, your arteries become constricted and your heart rate becomes abnormally high. So when in a difficult situation, opt to face it in a relaxed and composed manner. Not only will you be able to find solutions to the situation more effectively, but you’ll get to ensure that you don’t end up becoming hypertensive too.

Monitoring your health is crucial if you ever want to live a longer and more fulfilling life. And you need not have to do anything extraordinary at all. Some simple habits which you incorporate in your daily routines are all it takes and your blood pressure will be kept at its healthiest.

The Exciting Changing World of Healthcare

December 2nd, 2011

As forward thinking professionals begin developing new healthcare technologies to meet the increasing demands in the healthcare industry, it is important to address certain special needs to make those technologies useful and safe. The healthcare industry is unique in that it involves working with large numbers of people who are in diseased and compromised states. As a result, healthcare technology developed these days must consider ways to prevent the spread of infectious germs.

New healthcare technologies like EMR must meet the needs of a growing population of aging individuals and high demands for nurses and other healthcare staff. New products that can speed up the work involved for healthcare professionals and increase the level of care are likely to be of interest to hospitals and clinics throughout the United States. But, while developing software can, in theory, speed up the provision of healthcare, it can also lead to catastrophic problems, if the hardware encasing these new technologies does not somehow prevent the spread of pathogens via keyboards or touchpads.

Healthcare technologies have a virtual element and a material element that must be addressed. If all nurses and healthcare workers regularly and reliably washed their hands without touching other contaminated items in the workplace, bacteria-resistant keyboards would not be necessary. But the reality is, germs can easily be spread when nurses or other hospital staff inadvertently touch things that should be clean in hospital environments. No one wants to be blamed for the spread of disease and the folks designing the new technologies in healthcare are trying to approach this problem with care to make new technologies in healthcare that will provide infinitely greater benefits over any risks involved. Various industries must work together and intersect to develop products that have important and beneficial safety features, like bacteria-resistant keyboards and touchpads, as well as technologically sophisticated software packages.
